Privacy policy
Inkdesk is built to run on your machine and keep your work there. This page says exactly what is stored, what leaves your computer, and what never does.

1. In short
Your notebooks, pages, drawings and experiments are stored by your own browser or desktop app, on your own device. We do not have a copy and we cannot read them. There is no account to create and no sign in.
Two things do involve a network. The assistant sends the part of the page you are looking at to a language model so that it can answer your question. And this website, if you use the contact form, receives what you type into it.
2. The app
Everything you make in Inkdesk is written to local storage on your device, in your browser's database or in the desktop app's own folder. That includes page contents, ink strokes, embedded images, your notebook structure, tool settings and the last page you had open.
None of it is transmitted. Deleting a notebook deletes it locally. Clearing your browser storage, or uninstalling the desktop app, removes the lot. Because we hold no copy, we also cannot restore anything for you, so export work you cannot afford to lose.
3. The assistant
The assistant is optional and off until you supply your own API key. When you ask it something, the following is sent to the model provider you have configured, currently OpenRouter by default:
- Your question, as typed or as transcribed from your voice.
- A description of the objects visible on your screen, including the text in them.
- When the visible area contains handwriting or images, a picture of that area.
- The last few exchanges in the current conversation, so follow up questions make sense.
It is limited to the part of the page you are looking at, not the whole page, unless you ask for something like a test that plainly needs all of it. Pressing the eye button turns board context off entirely, after which only your question is sent.
Your API key stays in a configuration file on your machine. The local server reads it, adds it to the request, and refuses to serve that file over HTTP. It is never delivered to the browser. What the model provider does with the request is governed by their own policy, not this one.
If you never configure a key, the assistant makes no network requests at all and the rest of Inkdesk carries on working.
4. This website
The site sets no advertising cookies and loads no third party trackers, fonts or scripts. Everything it needs is served from the same place as the page.
If you arrive from a link carrying campaign tags, those tags are kept for the length of your visit so we can tell which announcement brought you here. They are discarded when you close the tab, and choosing Necessary only in the storage notice removes them immediately.
The contact form sends the name, email address and message you type, along with the page you sent it from and any campaign tags. We use it to answer you. We do not add you to a mailing list.

These are ordinary browser storage, not cookies, and none of them is sent to a server.
6. Your rights
Because your work never reaches us, most data requests are things you can carry out yourself and immediately: export a page, delete a notebook, or clear the site's storage from your browser settings.
For anything you have sent us through the contact form you may ask for a copy of it, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the address in section nine and we will act within thirty days.
7. Children and schools
Inkdesk is intended for school and college students, including those under eighteen. It asks for no personal details, creates no accounts and transmits no schoolwork, which is a deliberate part of the design.
A school enabling the assistant should be aware that visible page content is sent to a third party model provider at the moment a question is asked, and should review that provider's terms before switching it on for pupils. Board context can be turned off, and the assistant can be left unconfigured entirely.
8. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what leaves your machine, we will change the date at the top of this page and describe the change here. Continuing to use Inkdesk after that means you accept the revised policy.
